Scholarships For College Bound Student-Athletes of Garfield High School
Since 2004, the John Benson Scholarship Foundation is dedicated to helping individuals in financial need through a scholarship program for student athletes of James A. Garfield High School who wish to pursue higher education.Our goal is to help deserving individuals within our community achieve their career goals, an objective which has the added benefit of bettering the community at large. In short, our goal is to ensure that no deserving athlete in our community will be deprived of a higher education because of a shortage of funds. The annually selected scholarship recipients must be promising student-athletes who have demonstrated a desire to further their education through their ability to balance school work, extracurricular activities and home life. Students in their senior year must be recommended by a teacher and submit an essay as to who they are and what they want to accomplish in life, with an emphasis on someday giving back to the community.

The John Benson Scholarship Foundation, Inc. was started in July 2004. It made entirely by a group of dedicated volunteers who wish to honor Mr. John Benson's legacy and help raise funds for student-athletes in his name.
John Benson Annual Golf Tournament
Our primary fundraising event as an organization is our annual John Benson Scholarship Foundation Golf Tournament. It is typically held the first Friday in March at the Montebello Golf Course & Quiet Cannon banquet hall. Please check back for updated information as to how to participate at our next tournament.
